WiSys (lead organization) is a supporting organization of the Universities of Wisconsin, serving as the dedicated technology transfer office (TTO) for 11 universities. WiSys’ VentureHome (VH) is a network of startup hubs across the state that connects statewide resources with local initiatives to provide entrepreneurs access to a full menu of startup resources in their local communities.

The State of Wisconsin has shown its enthusiastic support for the Engine through financial commitments, participation in working groups, and engagement with the leadership team. The state’s economic development arm, Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC), has supported and funded VH for several years, including matching $350K towards the VH pre-seed fund. The Department of Workforce Development (DWD) will leverage their programming and lead the workforce development working group.

Universities of Wisconsin, consisting of 13 universities (including UW-Madison), provides support and funding for WiSys. It also provides support for translational research and entrepreneurship through grants, startup programs, and facilitating connections and partnerships.

University of Wisconsin-Madison will leverage its world-class research infrastructure across agriculture, computer and data science, and energy, scientific and technical expertise, and extensive partnerships to support Engine activities. UW-Madison will help lead the use-inspired working group.

 

Serra Ventures will provide investment for early-stage food and agriculture startups focused on sustainability and resilience in WI through a $14M venture capital fund.

Wisconsin Tribal Conservation Advisory Council (WTCAC) will facilitate partnerships between Forward Agriculture and the tribes of WI and intertribal organizations and collaborate on programs like Tribal apprenticeships. Their approach to food systems is rooted in sustainable practices – an important contribution to the leadership team.

Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation (WARF), which serves UW-Madison, is one of the oldest and most successful TTOs in the world, with $3B+ in assets. They will be part of the leadership team, provide guidance in creating a shared intellectual property (IP) plan, and will include Engine technologies to participate in the WARF accelerator.

UW-Milwaukee Research Foundation (UWMRF), the TTO for UW’s second R1 university, UW-Milwaukee. UWMRF will connect UW-Milwaukee innovators and startups to the Engine and provide Engine startups with access to the NSF I-corps program.

 

WI Farm Bureau Federation and WI Farmers Union will leverage their tremendous reach with small to large producers and food manufacturing companies and provide on-farm support by scaling existing outreach and advocacy programs. They will bring their respective members’ perspectives to the leadership team.

The Savanna Institute will leverage its farmer-facing technical assistance programs and personnel to effectively translate innovations on farms (especially those related to agroforestry) and engage K-12 educators in developing a robust workforce pipeline.

The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development (DWD) is a state agency charged with building and strengthening Wisconsin's workforce in the 21st century and beyond.

The Midwest Food Products Association, Inc. is a trade association that advocates on behalf of food processing companies and affiliated industries in Illinois, Minnesota, and Wisconsin.

 

Headquartered in Antigo, Wisconsin, the Wisconsin Potato and Vegetable Growers Association supports Wisconsin agriculture by helping our growers conduct and utilize the latest research and technologies, garner government support, produce environmentally sound research, and stay in touch with consumers.

WEDC collaborates with more than 600 economic development partners throughout the state in fulfillment of its mission to strategically invest in Wisconsin to enhance the economic well-being of people and their businesses and communities.

The Wisconsin Technology Council is the science and technology advisor to the Governor and the Legislature. It is an independent, non-profit and non-partisan board with members from tech companies, venture capital firms, higher education, research institutions, government and law.

 

Annie’s Project is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to providing educational programs designed to strengthen women’s roles in modern agricultural enterprises. Annie’s Project’s mission is to empower women in agriculture to be successful through education, networks and resources.

The Development Association champions business growth, creation, recruitment, and retention, in the City of Superior and Douglas County, Wisconsin.

The USGS provides science for a changing world, which reflects and responds to society’s continuously evolving needs.
