UW-Eau Claire Foundation / Rural Resiliency Project

Doris Mold

Project Lead

Project Description

In collaborating with WiSys through the Type I NSF Regional Innovation Engine proposal - An NSF Engine prototype for sustainable agricultural development through a statewide network of innovation hubs we intend to expand the Rural Resiliency Peer Coach Program to help farmers prosper by providing support in understanding how new technologies may increase the sustainability of farms. Additionally, by providing support to farmers in planning and implementing a transformation of their operation to add value or a transition of their operation to a different enterprise or the next generation, all the while sharing how technology can assist in the transition and increase the sustainability of the farms and farm families that we work with. Coupled with this the Peer Coaches will help them learn how to be more sustainable and resilient through the reduction of their stress levels and strategies to help them make better decisions and become effective advocates for themselves.

We are currently working on developing and launching phase II of the program which will include the recruiting and training of Peer Coaches to assist farmers in seeking stress reduction techniques and resources. After training the Coaches will be matched with farmers/farm families to assist those families. Having a trained, trusted peer with lived experience will assist them in finding the resources that they need. The virtual programming will also continue during this time.
